Interviewer: Kim Hyun Joong, there are many fans of yours in Russia and they wish you the belated happy birthday! Wish you joy!

HJ: Thank you very much.

Interviewer: In one of your interviews, you said something that get us right here. You said that you do your best for achieving your dream and keep it real. Where do you get the strength to follow your goal? What or who helps you?

HJ: I alway try to concentrate on my goals and perfect myself all the time. I'm sure that I'll reach my goal and always think about it. Ofcourse, I get tired too and have difficulties sometimes, but my fans give me strength. So my goals only grow, to add up. 

Interviewer: As we know, you have a special attitude towards charity. Beeing a philanthropist - what means it for you?

HJ: Being a philanthropist is not imposrtant for me. I grew up in an ordinaty family, not rich nor poor. I think, a person can do nothing without love, many love me and I'm grateful for it. I do not make commerce. In the past I had many thoughts about how to help people that's why I started doing charity work.

Interviewer: Many fans started doing the same because of you. They try to do something great, kind and helpful. What do you think, is it important?

HJ: I think charity is a good thing and everyone decides for oneself to contribute or not. I cannot force people to do charity. Many people follow footsteps of the persone they like. If I can be an example, then someday people will start doing charity themselves. 

Interviewer:  By looking at your work, we always assume that your agency, manager, staff and people who help you, are outstanding. Can you tell us about them?

HJ: Yes, they are, and many help me on this concert (the interview was taken during Hyun Joong's Beijing concert on June, 10th), including lighting technicians, sound control supervisor, manager, dancers, costumiers. My concert is not the result of only my personal outputs, my partners and assistances helped me and I'm very grateful for them. I think that successful concert is not only mine success but our joint success!

Collaborating with B'Z, Kim HyunJoong's all-rounded flexiblity

Many Korean idol groups are gaining many popularity in Japan indeed but as a solo singer Kim HyunJoong have proven his overwhelming ability in Japan. For the first time, Japan's well-known rock band, B'Z have composed song for other artistes which garnered many attentions. With the soft charismatic side of him in dramas as well as the rocker side of him in music, here's Kim HyunJoong's interview from Vogue Japan.

Kim HyunJoong's performance on stage had always been a mesmerizing one for fans below stage. With his charming bright smile, sexy yet masculine image together with his 4-dimensional answers during interview indeed have captured many young hearts out there. If we do not pay enough attention to what he was trying to say, we might not have any idea what he just said! 

Q: Kim HyunJoong is actually a tough guy but also having a tender and gentle side of him, right?
A: I think I have both the personalities. On stage I showed the manly side of me, in dramas I showed the gentle side of me, whichever side it is, that's a side of me.

'4-Dimensional', 'Alien' character, a conversation on the great wisdom

Kim HyunJoong who is a solo singer currently, debuted from the 5-member group SS501 since 2005. He is known as the 'Leader' as there's members with similar name (pronunciation). 

Known for his handsome image, he was casted in the Korean version of 'Boys Over Flower' as Yoon Jihoo and also Baek Seungjo in 'Playful Kiss', expressing his talents well as well as his charisma. 

What really made him rose to the popularity was the top Korean variety show 'We Got Married'. It is a variety show that pairs up Korean celebrities to show what life would be like if they were married. In this show, Kim HyunJoong was paired up with another Korean female celebrity who is 7 years older than him. There's a scene where Kim HyunJoong gave his driver's license photo to his 'wife' in the show with a small note 'If you are feeling lonely please see this' and because of this innocent behavior he was then known as 4-dimensional, attracting more fans' hearts.

A: No matter how true my attitude is in programs, I will also consider how I should present myself in programs before I talk or act. Obliging the rules and reading the scripts for TV programs or interviews beforehand in order to know what I should present to fans. Showing my true self to fans and getting good reviews from everyone is a blessed thing. (laughs)

Q: Is there any special '4D' reason behind why you are using a normal cell phone instead of using a smartphone?

A: I feel alright even if I'm using a cellphone now (laughs) and I don't really mind what's in the top trend now. Because I rather prefer button-touching cellphone instead of the touchscreen smartphones, so perhaps I'll consider to continue using a cell phone.

Q: If you are not using a smartphone, what do you use to listen to other people's music on the go? 

A: Nothing (laughs). Because I spend more time in the car moving from place to place, so I'll usually turn on the radio to listen to music.

2nd single's song composed by B'Z

After releasing his first solo album Break Down on June 2011, he had been very active in the music industry. He had also released his first Japanese single Kiss Kiss/Lucky Guy in January 2012 which topped the Japanese Oricon Chart in 2nd place. Next he released his 2nd Japanese single Heat in July 2012 which was composed by Japan's well-know band B'Z and it's the first time they have composed songs for other artistes. 

Q: We heard that HyunJoong is also a fan of B'Z, having all their albums too.

A: I think Matsumoto Takahiro and Inaba Koshi are a perfect combination group. Because they are very talented in composing unique songs and lyrics, I guess this is the reason why they were so loved back then. With the same reason, I am a big fan of them.

Q: Kim HyunJoong loved rock music very much.

A: I've joined the band in my high school last time. In Korea I loved Seo Taiji and in Japan I loved B'Z. The song Heat is totally B'z's style. At first I was worried whether I could sing this song well enough but after endless times of practice, I'm indulged to the song already. I love the addicting tempo and lyrics. I will put all my effort in performing this song so to express what this song is supposed to bring. 

Q: During the recording, Inoshi Koshi have taught you how to perform this song?

A: He gave me some advice on how to express this song and thanks to him, this song was recorded perfectly. All in all, they are a well-respected sunbaes in the music industry and they are the ones I admire very much. I was very nervous when I first met them, but they were very friendly welcoming me. Working together with such well-respected sunbaes in the same studio, I've learned many new things. The Japanese single this time is the production of Japanese, and it's my first time performing a rock music, even though there are many challenges, but because of this challenges, I learned many new things and I'm very happy. 

Appreciating every moments, practicing for his new drama

Actually the Vogue video shooting took place at late night and after it ended, Kim HyunJoong returned to his hotel and did the interview and started practicing for his new drama.

A: I'm preparing for my upcoming drama 'City Conquest'. Even though I'm busy with the Asia Fanmeeting and time is insufficient. Even so I have schedules on that particular day, upon returning to the hotel, I will practice for my drama if I have any spare time.

Q: What is your character in the new drama?

A: I'm Baek Mir in the drama who is a man struggling with abandonment and growing up an orphan, who falls head over in heels in love easily. He fights against the harsh world that tore his family apart. This is a total different character from before. As the shooting for the drama is around the corner, the determination to make this drama a success is becoming stronger and I will work hard for it.

Q: Heard that the first shooting location will be in Japan. The weather is very hot in the summer.

A: I love working during the summer. Not only for the drama, but for my album as well as fanmeetings. Putting all my best into everything I do, becoming the only one in my fans' hearts.

Let's meet somewhere in the universe during the concert someday!

Q: Where's your dream in the future for working so hard?

A: Hmm...universe. I will gather all my fans in the universe and hold a concert there (laughs)

HOST: I’m here feeling nervous together with a lot of Hong Kong fans because our guest today is Korea’s Style Icon, Kim Hyun Joong…Annyeonghaseyo (Hello) ~


KHJ: Hello everybody, I’m Kim Hyun Joong.


HOST: As we know, this is not the first time you visited Hong Kong. There are a lot of delicacies and tourist spots in Hong Kong. So do you have any particular ones that you wish to try or visit?


KHJ: Actually, Hong Kong is a place that I visited quite often personally…But this time, the main focus is more on the fan meeting. That’s why this trip to Hong Kong, I won’t be very particular about food or anything else, just hoping to focus more on the fan meeting.


HOST: Every time when you are onstage, you will be dancing and singing with a lot of passion together with your dancers. But we know that this will also use up a lot of energy. So, is there any reason for you to choose a harder type of dance choreography?


KHJ: Many fans commented that my dance choreography is hard, this is what I thought too. However, even if this choreography is of high level of difficulty, I still wish to perform it in front of everyone, so that people will not be bored from the visuals. I have worked hard on this. For future albums and dance choreography, I will study it carefully as well. I will try my best to give even better performance for everyone to watch.


HOST: How much would you rate your dancing skills out of 100 marks?


KHJ: No matter for what I do, I would not give myself a score of 100/100, but at least for hard work I have put into dancing, I want to give a score of 100 for that. However, this score varies according to the my condition during the actual performance, but in front of fans and the audience, because I confidently appeared on stage and danced in front of everyone, I would want to give this amount of efforts a score of 100. As for the rest, I will leave the comments to my fans and audience.


HOST: With all the busy schedules you have, when you have free time you still choose to go out and have fun. But why won’t you choose to rest?


KHJ:  I’m human too, with my busy work schedules, I also wish to have time off and get some good rest. But due to my own personality, which is that I would not be able to let myself rest for a long period. I love to work continuously, I would practice even during my days off. I must find some work for myself to do… If there comes a time where I really get a long holiday, for example this time, after my fanmeeting tour ends, after the promotion for the Japanese album ends and also after filming the drama…By that time, it should be end of December already…Before 2013 arrives, I hope to spend about 10 days to travel to overseas instead of Korea. I'd like to go to a warm country so that I can spend my winter like summer.


HOST: Like you mentioned, you want to go travelling. Is there any place in mind?


KHJ:  As for travelling, of course I wish to travel around the world. But now what I feel like to do the most is to go to the Philippines together with a group of friends I like. Because I heard in the Philippines you can fish for marlins…And you can catch very big fish…So I hope to experience that.


HOST: Everybody knows that you have a very busy schedule to work with. Putting away the fan meeting tour this time, there are still a lot of work you need to deal with. So how do you regain back your energy?


KHJ:  Although my work schedules are fully packed, but for example, I had Singapore fanmeeting, after the fanmeeting ended, all the stress I had before it started just disappeared . Then after the Singapore Fan Meeting, I also had to do preparations for the new album and also came to Hong Kong…And when all these is completed, all the stress will naturally go away. This is my thought.


HOST: Everyone also saw your fit trained body during your performances. So do you have any special ways of training your body?


KHJ:  Well, as an artist, it’s true that I should be paying lots of attention to my body, however im not doing a good job at that. I’m quite hard working when it comes to exercise. For my upcoming new drama this year, I need to strengthen my body, thus I have been seriously working out lately. Recently my body figure, is the best I have so far.  


HOST: What type of role are you acting in this drama since it requires you to train to have such a fit body?


KHJ:  Hong Kong’s TV drama lovers, should know about action movies …My drama this time has some similarities with Hong Kong's action movies. The role I'm playing is very manly, a character who had experienced the hardships of life but also has a soft image… This is a very interesting genre. I also grew up watching Hong Kong movies, I believe that this drama will be well received by Hong Kong viewers. Now, it’s in the middle of preparation.


HOST: There must be its own difficulty in portraying the role for this drama, but why do you still accept this role?


KHJ: I hope to act a character which is different from the past characters I've portrayed and have a total transformation of image. To act as Baek Mir in the drama ‘City Conquest’…I’m undergoing acting lessons now for this drama because of the need to change the gentleman image from previous dramas. I’m hoping to receive the title of 'manly Kim Hyun Joong', so I've been undergoing trainings on body and acting as well.


HOST: Everyone also knows that you referred to yourself as U:Zoosin and your good drawing skills is well known…So can you draw a picture of yourself on what type of person you are?

HOST: Is this during when you dance?


KHJ: This is my pose when coming out to the stage during the opening of the fan meeting.


HOST: Can you let us see once?


KHJ: There is an action like this. (KHJ then acts out, @ 7:37) After seeing this, everyone can slightly guess what will happen during the fanmeeting. This is some kind of hint for all of you.


HOST: Is there anything else that you want to tell your Hong Kong fans?


KHJ: Dear Hong Kong fans, we have the chance to meet-up during the Yahoo Award Ceremony for the past years. This time, I finally came to Hong Kong to perform. Bringing my stage to you after such a long period of time, I will work wholeheartedly to give an exciting performance. I will also have a Hi5 session with everyone of you. Wish that this fan meet is a great platform for us to interact with each other.


HOST: I’m very happy to have the chance to interview you. Thank you.

I'm very happy to hear Hyun Joong talking about going here in the Philippines in December. Hope that will really push through and I also hope he'll have time to meet us fans...Of course, it's supposedly a vacation so we wouldn't want to intrude...And I hope it'll be a great experience for him...hope he catches some really big Marlins, LOL...

I wonder where he'll decide to go...Probably in Cebu I guess since he's been there before..Not sure if he owns a resort there or have some friends who do...wow, some lucky Pinoys are real friends with Kim Hyun Joong...That must be something. I will definitely get starstruck every time he's around.

Anyway, I sure do hope he'll get some rest. He said so himself that he's a natural workaholic. His schedule's very hectic and with all the fan meetings, and trainings for the drama, he'll surely wear himself out at some point.

I was actually a bit concerned hearing him talk about pressure. It must not be easy to deal with  especially since his projects are overlapping and he would encounter different pressures from each project every time. And it's amazing how he handles everything... Just don't forget to enjoy,  Hyun Joong-ah... It's so much better to love what you do for work than just do it for the sake of compliance... Well I think he wouldn't have gone so far if not for his passion for what he does...just that sometimes, things may tend to go overboard...Hope that won't happen to HJ.

Can't really wait to see his complete transformation in City Conquest. I've always wanted to see him do action. I'm sure he'll be great and hot! LOL... His physique lately is indeed the best he's had so far. More so when Hyun Joong performs all those stunts for the drama. It's a must-watch for every fan.

As there were many questions which contain duplications with other magazines, I focused on the questions with no overlapping.

Q : What are the difference between KissKiss Korean and Japanese versions ?

KHJ: The lyrics deliver the same message. The difference is a way of mixing. Japanese version is aimed easy and confortable for Japanese people. If I promote myself in Japan, I thought that it would be nice to add factors which they feel familiar with as a J-POP.

Q : The image and concept of the three album jackets gives different impression from
those of Korean versions.

KHJ : I wanted to show three concepts, i.e., tender , sexy, and charisuma. However, it took a considerable time. Actually, there were nine sets (9 pieces of clothes ). It was a pity that I could not show you all of them. If only I could have disclosed those pictures on the net. Personally, I like the best, the sexy look dressed in red. Usually I don’t have a chance to put on something red.

Q : KissKiss is a story of an encounter with the woman of dream. Have you recently met a girl you felt a woman of your destiny ?

KHJ: I feel I had. I had an opportunity to meet with the lady whom I had been having affection for a long time. I feel strange that it happened to me…. It was a Korean girl (he said in Japanese) 

Q: “Power of Smile” expresses a very strong determination while being tender. Any points you feel symphathy with this song?

KHJ : When I recorded this song, there occurred many disasters in Japan. While thinking of those fans in their sorrow, I sang this song for them. I thought that what I could deliver to them was my song. I know that a song cannot cheer them up completely, but I just wanted to do something to soothe their sadness.

Q: Any strange happenings you have recently experienced.

KHJ: My clothes disappeared one by one. Even with a monitoring camera, we could not find who took them away. No one in the monitoring screen ! Not only clothes, but also wataches disappeared one by one.

Q: Any specific episode in Japan which you cannot forget ?

KHJ: I could not read Japanese at all when I came to Japan for the first time. I misunderstood a medicine for athlete’s foot for tooth paste (laugh) I also took body lotion for a hair rinse. One of the medicines we got from the fans was the one for athlet’s foot which happened to be in the bathroom.That is why I guessed wrong. One of the members (SS501) continued to use that medicine for athlete's foot as tooth paste, having bleeding from the gum. I thought my gum was strong as it did not happen to me ^^

[INTERVIEW] Mezamashi TV's feature of Hyun Joong (w/ Trans)

Apologies if it's been ages since my last blog post. :( I've been very, very busy with work, so I wasn't able to give time to blogging anymore. 
Anyway, I remain an avid Kim Hyun Joong fan nonetheless... and I'm even more head over heels crazy about the guy...
Hopefully, I'll be able to update regularly again from now on... For now, here's a video clip and article about Hyun Joong's interview with Mezamashi TV :)

He made a couple of surprise visits to CD shops in Tokyo, yet so many fans came to see him. His visits were a secret, and only Mezamashi TV followed him.

MC: There’re big surprise events in Shibuya and Ginza yesterday.
A Hanryu (Hallyu) star, KHJ debuted as a solo the other day in Japan and made a surprise appearance in front of fans.


Girl: I saw him. He was handsome. Fufufufufu ~chego (good!)~


VO: The person whom the fans came to see was KHJ, who debuted as a solo the other day in Japan. He visited Shibuya and Ginza to promote his debut CD.


VO: His debut CD won 2nd spot on the Oricon daily ranking.
His visit was planned secretly but about 200 fans got the information from Twitter or etc (and gathered) in Shibuya.


VO: He was welcomed with great cheers by fans and left his autograph on his panel.
These fans who could shake hands with him were very lucky, as his stay was just only 1 min and 21 secs. He left like a storm and headed to Ginza.


KHJ: I feel that Japanese fans are very enthusiastic and their feelings (zeal/enthusiasm) to cheer me is big.


In fact KHJ has lived in Japan some years ago.
His favorite dishes since then…?


KHJ: The dishes I often eat are gyu-don, ramen, soba, and curry rice.
I especially like the curry and rice at CoCo Ichi (it's the name of the shop).


He seems to like Japanese fast-food.
Then what is his favorite Japanese word?


KHJ: "Agepoyo"
Since I’ve debuted in Japan, everyday is “agepoyo” for me.


VO: His next visit with such an “agepoyo” feeling was a CD shop in Ginza.
There were double the number of fans compared with at Shibuya, about 500 agepoyo fans welcomed him.


VO: He’s called “rida” because he’s been a leader of SS501, which debuted in Korea, in 2005. After the event, so many fans were waiting for him to come out.


Fan1: "He is so handsome and cute and I'm really moved (that I could) meet him.
Fan2: "I really love him. He is the aunt's (middle-aged women's) longing (adoration)."


KHJ: I think I have to work harder (to meet the expectations from fans) in the future.
I also want to thank all the fans for coming to see me.


VO: KHJ had a stage on Mezamashi Live last summer and he had been very popular since then. There weren't any announcement, but about 700 fans had gathered to see him.

[FEATURE] Kim Hyun Joong to release more music in December and January

After focusing on his acting career, SS501‘s Kim Hyun Joong is more than ready to turn the focus back to singing. He’s been in high-drive lately, releasing back to back albums in the same year and delving into styles and concepts that most singers go through in double the time.

Why the rush? Kim Hyun Joong took the time to explain why, as well as some news on future releases through his interview with Segye Ilbo.

The singer stated, “First of all, I’m planning to release a ballad in December through a digital single with a unique music video to go with it. In January, I’m going to release another mini-album. Considering my schedule, I don’t have room to space them out. I’m also going on a tour next year to meet up with more of my fans so I’m trying to have some good songs under my belt before then. As for an official studio album, I think I prefer a mini-album with five or so songs.”

His recent “Lucky Guy” comeback was inspired by the movie ‘Ocean’s Eleven‘. He stated, “You can consider the album mainstream, but also modern. My concept is freedom. I remember seeing the movie Ocean’s Eleven and just thinking to myself, ‘That’s it.’ I set the physical concept first and then began to collect songs.”

He continued, “As for ‘Lucky Guy‘, it sounds like a song that would be performed with a band on stage, but I actually have a fun choreography to go with it. It’s a song that I made out of hope of creating something that’s considered band music, but also something that you can dance to. I made sure my outfits were also colorful to give that ‘dandy guy’ look.”

He’s already sold 110,000 album units so far, but that shouldn’t be a surprise considering he’s Kim Hyun joong.

“There’s a limit as to how far you can go as a dance singer. When I’m older, I’m sure I’ll be pursuing different genres, so when I have some time to myself, I want to sit down and try music that I’ve always wanted to pursue since I was younger. I actually love band music and play the bass myself. Still, I want to learn more instruments and create something all my own. At the beginning of SS501′s debut, I liked the thought of being a celebrity, but I think that’s inevitable as a young teen. Either way, I think it’s important to not be content with where you are now and to always work towards improving yourself.”

On the topic of dating, he said, “All of the girls I meet are strictly for business purposes so I don’t have anyone I’m dating. If I do have one, I guess pictures would be taken of us.”
